Texas starting quarterback Arch Manning had minor foot surgery this week to address a previous injury, the team announced Friday.

Manning, who became the Longhorns’ full-time starting quarterback in 2025 and helped them to a 10-3 record, underwent the procedure as a preventative measure, the school said. It did not disclose the nature of Manning’s previous injury, but said he is expected to be back during spring football.

In 2025, Manning started all 13 games, throwing for 3,163 yards and 26 touchdowns with seven interceptions. He was also the team’s second-leading rusher, with 399 yards and 10 scores on the ground.

Manning, who entered 2025 as the Heisman Trophy favorite according to oddsmakers, shook off a rough start to the season with a strong second half, accounting for 20 touchdowns with just two turnovers in his final six games. He led Texas to three consecutive wins to close out the year, including an upset over then-undefeated Texas A&M in the regular-season finale and a win over a ranked Michigan in the Citrus Bowl. Manning won MVP honors for the bowl game.

Manning is one of six Texas players who had offseason surgery to address various issues. Receivers Ryan Wingo (wrist) and Emmett Mosley V (ankle), left tackle Trevor Goosby (shoulder), linebacker Ty’Anthony Smith (shoulder) and defensive back Xavier Filsaime (shoulder) each have had procedures to address injuries since the season ended. Wingo, Mosley, Goosby, Smith and Filsaime are all expected to be back and 100 percent healthy by the start of the season, the school said.

Texas finished No. 12 in the final Associated Press Top 25 but missed the College Football Playoff after entering the 2025 season No. 1 in the poll. Expectations will again be high in 2026. The Longhorns debuted at No. 5 in The Athletic’s Way-Too-Early Top 25 for the 2026 season.

In addition to returning Manning, Wingo, Goosby and edge rusher Colin Simmons, the Longhorns added several top players in the transfer portal this month.

Auburn receiver Cam Coleman, running backs Hollywood Smothers (NC State) and Raleek Brown (Arizona State), Pitt linebacker Rasheem Biles and Wake Forest offensive tackle Melvin Siani headline a transfer class that is considered one of the best in the country.
