R-F's Garcia wins at Tuloso-Midway meet

The Rockport-Fulton girls powerlifting team turned in a solid showing Saturday at the Beau Savanich Memorial Powerlifting Meet at Corpus Christi Tuloso-Midway, finishing sixth in the team standings while earning multiple top-five finishes.

Rockport-Fulton scored 12 team points, trailing Beeville, Corpus Christi London and host Tuloso-Midway.

The Lady Pirates were led by a championship performance from Alizabeth Garcia in the 242-plus weight class. Garcia captured first place with an 1,085-pound total, lifting 475 pounds in the squat, 270 in the bench press and 340 in the deadlift to secure Rockport-Fulton’s lone gold medal of the meet.

Rockport-Fulton also picked up a key podium finish in the 132-pound division, where Noble Chapman placed third with a 700-pound total after posting lifts of 265 in the squat, 145 on the bench and 290 in the deadlift.

Additional scoring came from the middle weights. Jennah Carvajal placed seventh at 165 pounds with a 560-pound total, while Dayanna Garcia finished 11th at 148 pounds, totaling 550 pounds. Caroline Stephenson added a fourth-place finish at 114 pounds to round out the team’s scoring opportunities.
