CANUTILLO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — All schools in the Canutillo district will open earlier on Monday and Tuesday for students who need a warm place to wait for classes to start.
According to the Canutillo Independent School District, all 10 school campuses will open their cafeterias at 6 a.m. both days to be used as warming paces, as temperatures are expected to drop over the weekend.

“We know working families rely on our schools to provide more than just instruction. They also look to us to provide a safe environment for their children,” said Superintendent Dr. Josue Borrego. “By opening our cafeterias early, we can offer families a warm and safe space for students who arrive before the regular school day during these very cold conditions.”
The district stated that while students wait for class to start, they will be supervised by staff and served breakfast.

The district emphasized that classes will be scheduled as usual.
However, the district said it will also be looking at how the weather evolves over the weekend and will update families and the community of any schedule changes.
