The Plano Independent School District announced Saturday, Jan. 24, that all Plano ISD schools and facilities will be closed Monday, Jan. 26, due to the winter storm, extreme cold temperatures and anticipated hazardous conditions of roads, parking lots and walkways.
“As a reminder, all campus and district activities are canceled through Monday as well,” the district said. “This decision prioritizes the safety and well-being of our students and staff throughout Plano ISD’s 100 square miles, as well as neighboring communities from which staff members commute.”
Plano ISD said the district considers several factors when making decisions about school operations during weather concerns, including safe travel conditions, the safety and functionality of school buildings, resources and utilities during extreme weather events.
“It’s important to note that due to the district’s tiered busing system, delayed starts or early releases are not feasible options,” the announcement said.
A decision regarding school operations for Tuesday, Jan. 27, will be made after evaluating facility and travel conditions over the next 24 to 48 hours, the district said.
