Spirit Halloween stores pop up for a limited time from August to November every year.

The brand is notorious for temporarily filling storefronts of closed businesses for a short three-month lease. This season in DFW, Spirit Halloween has taken over old Joann’s Craft Stores, Party City, Forever 21 and Big Lots stores.

This year, there are an estimated 1,500 stores across the country. There are more than 30 in the DFW metroplex, according to the store locator on Spirit Halloween’s website.

Despite the store only being open for a quarter of the year, Spirit Halloween draws in the majority of the revenue for its parent brand, Spencers Gifts LLC. The National Retail Federation says 31 percent of consumers shop for Halloween supplies at specialty Halloween and costume stores.

Spirit Halloween is known to have pretty much anything a spooky shopper needs — decorations, costumes, makeup, masks, wigs and some candy.

When is the last day you can shop at a Spirit Halloween store?

According to a Spirit Halloween spokesperson, the last day you can shop at a store for the 2025 season will be either Nov. 1 or Nov. 2.

Spirit Halloween stores are open Monday to Thursday from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.
