LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – Snow and single-digit temperatures did not stop thousands of fans from filling United Supermarkets Arena for Texas Tech’s ranked matchup against the Houston Cougars.
Despite the harsh winter conditions, Red Raider Nation showed up in full force for the conference game that featured a College GameDay appearance.
“I’m not gonna lie, these guys forced me to come. I was thinking about staying in bed, but I’m glad I ended up coming,” one fan said.
Many fans may have considered staying inside due to the weather, but the Red Raider faithful had other plans.
“I don’t know, I think the snow is going to affect it, but I think the Tech fan base will pull up and show out, so I think it is gonna be good,” another fan said before the game.
Fans showcase loyalty despite conditions
With College GameDay making an appearance and the significance of the in-conference matchup, fans knew they needed to demonstrate why they consider themselves the loudest and proudest fan base.
“We’re always showing up, we will be here no matter the weather, how cold it is, we will always be here to support our team,” one fan said. “I’m most excited about being with the fans you know, it’s a great atmosphere, personally I think it’s the best atmosphere in college basketball, so I am really excited for the game,” another fan said.
One fan from Houston who now attends Texas Tech said this was a matchup he could not miss.
“I’m here today because I’m from Houston, but I go to Texas Tech so I gotta support Tech,” he said. “Although I’m from Houston, but you know, it is Wreck’em first.”
