Conditions have continued to worsen. Highs were forecast to remain in the 20s, with lows in the teens and single digits through Tuesday morning, according to the National Weather Service’s Fort Worth office, with an overnight low of 8 degrees expected. The temperature is not expected to rise above freezing until about noon Tuesday.

Several area districts said they were monitoring the weather and forecast ahead of making any announcements. On Sunday afternoon, Dallas ISD made the call to cancel classes on Tuesday. Other districts and schools will likely follow. Carroll ISD and Anna ISD also canceled classes

Districts look at multiple factors when deciding whether to cancel school.

In Dallas ISD for example, school personnel drive through the streets near schools to assess road conditions, according to district policy. They also check in with the weather service, police and gas and utility companies. They communicate their findings to Superintendent Stephanie Elizalde, who makes the final call.
