Plano ISD will be closed on Monday, Jan. 26 and Tuesday, Jan. 27, according to the district’s website.

What you need to know

All district campuses and facilities will be closed due to “extreme cold temperatures and anticipated hazardous conditions of roads, parking lots and walkways,” a PISD update states. All campus and district activities are also canceled through Jan. 27.

District officials expect classes to be held as scheduled on Wednesday, according to the update. PISD parents will be notified through email, text messages and phone calls on any future weather-related updates. Updates can also be found on the district’s website or social media pages.

Zooming out

According to the National Weather Service, Winter Storm Fern is expected to move through the region starting Jan. 24 and bring freezing temperatures through Jan. 27. Officials with the weather service also noted wind chills will likely range from 5-15 degrees, which pose hypothermia and frostbite risks with prolonged exposure.
