MCLENNAN COUNTY, Texas (FOX 44) – Central Texas Authorities are working hard to keep the roads as drivable as possible. And for the most part, our FOX 44 team saw very few vehicles on I-35 this morning.
Our team only came upon one accident on Highway 6, just north of Russell. A tractor-trailer wreck with a vehicle stuck in the median near Highway 6 and Seven Mile Road.
As crews cleaned things up with minimal traffic diversion, first responders and law enforcement are imploring local residents to stay off the roads, if at all possible.
Stay home, stay safe as the bitter cold takes hold the next few days, and road conditions continue to be treacherous.
For those that must travel, use abundant caution. Take it slow. Really slow. If you think you’re driving too slow, you’re not going slow enough.
Make sure your vehicle is capable of handling the ice and the snow, and that your tires are in good condition.
Be prepared with emergency supplies in the vehicle, like a blanket, jacket, water, snacks, etc., just in case you do go off-road, and you have to wait for emergency crews to get to you.
McLennan County Emergency Operations Center staff say they’re staying alert and ready to help. They have crews that are out trying to deal with hotspots and make sure that all the members of the community are well taken care of.
If you need help, call 911. If you need something specific, call the departments that need it.
I can assure you that we will do everything we can to make sure we get that help to you.
