McKINNEY – Three months ago, the Plano East girls basketball team embarked on a journey with an unforeseen end. Three months later, the picture is starting to clear up. The Lady Panthers are 12-0 in District 6-6A competition, with their latest victory being a 56-39 triumph over the McKinney Boyd Lady Broncos on Thursday, Jan. 23. It was the team’s 10th consecutive victory, with its last defeat coming almost a month ago against North Little Rock. Since then, it has been smooth sailing, with the win over McKinney Boyd (18-6, 6-5 District 6-6A) being no exception.
Plano East’s (24-7, 12-0) previous game against the Lady Broncos, a narrow 67-64 victory on Dec. 12, was one of the most competitive the team has played throughout its district campaign. The rematch was not as tough, as the Lady Panthers made the necessary adjustments and came out and decisively took care of business.
“We really focused a lot on defense,” Plano East head coach Derrick Richardson said after the game. “I feel like our defense has progressively gotten better over the course of the season, and in particular over the past month. We really focused on that heading into that game [against McKinney Boyd].”
