AT&T said it has prepped all week to do what it can to help its customers maintain service during the winter storm.

“It’s so widespread, coming all the way from Texas up to Virginia,” Incident Commander Ken Smith said. “We have personnel and assets spread out so that we can respond fast.”

Smith told NBC 5 they’re most concerned about ice on power lines impacting service areas.

“If you get that ice on the power lines and trees that bring that power down, that’s going to impact our network,” Smith said. “

According to Smith, AT&T has brought in hundreds of generators to the Dallas area alone to proactively prepare for what could come.

“With what we do, I get emotional,” Smith said. “We do care about our customers…when we roll into an area, whether it’s a winter storm, or like in Kerrville, as an example, supporting our public safety, that’s an important aspect of what we do. Public safety is a critical role.”

AT&T is asking customers to report outages as soon as they might occurand in a timely fashion so it can get crews out to the area quickly.
