Snow days in North Texas are few and far between, which makes every flurry feel like an event. When winter weather finally delivers enough coverage to sleds, families across Plano, Allen and other Collin County cities waste no time pulling out sleds, improvised sliders and anything that might glide downhill.

While North Texas may not have mountains, it does have a handful of neighborhood hills that locals return to year after year — easy to access, familiar and just steep enough to make a snow day feel special.

Making It Work Without A Sled

Traditional sleds are great, but North Texas families are known for getting creative. Cookie sheets, pool floats and hockey shooting pads often make surprise appearances when snow arrives unexpectedly. If it slides, it counts.

A Few Snow-Day Safety Notes

Because snow often means slick roads and sidewalks, it’s best to choose spots you can safely walk to. Families are encouraged to avoid sledding near streets or parked vehicles and to keep younger children within close reach, especially on steeper hills.

Snow days don’t last long here, but the memories do. When winter weather cooperates, these local hills become gathering places for neighbors, laughter and one of North Texas’ rare chances to play in the snow.
