El Pasoans are still defrosting from this past weekend’s winter storm winter weekend that legit turned the borderland into something straight out of a holiday movie.

El Paso headed into the weekend with chilly temperatures and steady rain, setting the stage for what was to come. By late Saturday night and into early Sunday morning, colder air moved in, allowing rain to transition into snow across parts of El Paso. While most of the snow was mostly light, it was still enough to cover yards, rooftops, and mountain areas in a blanket of snow.

My favorite part about snow days in El Paso is seeing the ways El Pasoans and their families spend the day. Social media quickly filled with photos and videos of snow-covered neighborhoods, kids sledding down front-yard hills, and neighbors teaming up for snowball fights. My own parents even built a mini snowman in their backyard.

El Paso Did In Fact Want To Build A Snowman

Social media was full of plenty of snowmen that popped up across the city during this snow day. Some small and simple, others impressively creative, proving that when El Paso gets snow, residents make the most of it.

El Paso Dogs Love Snow Too

This was the first snow day of 2026 for El Paso, and it was also the first snow day for my boyfriend’s dog, Wilson. I let him out to enjoy the snow but he was very confused at first.

After finally getting comfortable, he was able to enjoy the snowday but I honestly think he preferred watching the snow from inside the house along with his two brothers.

Hazardous Weather Means School Delays

The winter weather also led to concerns about icy roads and freezing temperatures heading into Monday morning. As a result, several major school districts announced two-hour delayed starts to allow for safer travel.

Overall, this first snow day of 2026 for El Paso was a pleasant surprise. Families got to enjoy the day indoors, some watching football, and others having snowball fights.
