CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A fundraiser is set for a Corpus Christi police officer injured in last week’s west side shootout, as the community rallies behind her recovery.

The Corpus Christi Police Foundation identified Alexandria “Alley” Cano-Castro as one of three officers who were shot in the line of duty during a violent series of events that began with a deadly shooting at McArdle Road and Ayers Street.

Two of the officers have since been released from the hospital. Cano-Castro remains hospitalized as she continues her recovery.

In the days following the shooting, a GoFundMe was created to help support Cano-Castro and her family with long-term care, rehabilitation, and unexpected expenses.

Organizers say the fundraiser is meant to ease the financial burden during what they describe as a life-altering moment for the officer and her loved ones. To make a donation towards Cano’s fundraiser, click here

“Every donation, share, and message of encouragement is a reminder that Alley is not alone and that we stand beside her,” the fundraiser description reads.

The suspect involved has not yet been publicly identified and remains hospitalized in police custody.

Authorities say investigations into both the original homicide and the officer-involved shooting are ongoing.
