BONHAM, Texas (KCBD/KXII) – Three elementary school students drowned Monday near Bonham, Texas.
Bonham is just southeast of Denison, northeast of Dallas, on U.S. 82.
Fannin County Sheriff Cody Shook told KXII 12 the three boys died in an accident off Recreational Road Three, just outside of Bonham. The Texas Department of Public Safety confirmed the drownings but said it is not investigating the incident.
The children have not been identified.
Bonham Independent School District sent a letter to families Monday night addressing the deaths.
“We are devastated by this unimaginable loss, and our thoughts are with the family, friends, and all who knew and loved these children,” the district’s statement read.
KXII reports the district will have counselors available this week, to meet with students and staff.
Texas State Representative Shelley Luther said in a Facebook post that the victims were siblings.
“Prayers going out to the family who lost three siblings this evening in a Fannin County drowning,” Luther said. “Just heartbreaking.”
