ARLINGTON, Texas — Warming centers and overnight shelters will be available in Arlington from January 23 to January 27 as temperatures plummet. The City of Arlington’s Homeless Emergency Cold Weather Shelter plan is activated when temperatures drop to 39 degrees or below for four consecutive hours overnight, according to a press release from the Office of Communication.

The City is collaborating with The Salvation Army, First United Methodist Church, and Nations Church to provide shelter. The Salvation Army, located at 712 W. Abram St., will offer overnight accommodations with check-in from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. and check-out the following morning. This site can accommodate up to 30 individuals, and breakfast will be served. First United Methodist Church, at 407 N. Mesquite St., will open its doors when temperatures fall to 32 degrees or less, accommodating up to 20 individuals. Nations Church Arlington, at 1013 W. Park Row Drive, will operate as both a warming center and an overnight shelter, open continuously from noon January 23 through 8 a.m. January 26, with meals provided throughout the day.

All Arlington Public Library locations and recreation centers will serve as warming centers during standard operating hours, excluding holidays. The George W. Hawkes Downtown Library will open its lobby and public restrooms earlier than usual on January 25. Additionally, the Arlington Animal Services Shelter will accept pets of homeless individuals as capacity allows, stated the source.
