RISD announced the closure of all facilities and cancellation of related activities Wednesday via social media shortly before 3 p.m. Tuesday. The decision was made in response to forecasts of freezing fog, neighborhood road conditions and the needs of teachers living outside the district, according to an in-depth release.

The NWS forecast predicts low temperatures in the mid-20s Tuesday night. Freezing fog is expected to appear later in the night and linger into the morning. It may cause reduced visibility, black ice on sidewalks and slick roads, according to the NWS.

We recognize the challenges this creates for our working families and the importance of returning to regular school routines,” the RISD release reads. However, continuing to prioritize the safety of our students and staff is essential.”

Families are advised to monitor district social media for updates
