Icy roads and frigid temperatures are forcing extended school closures across North Texas.

Icy roads and frigid temperatures are forcing extended school closures across North Texas. With cold conditions expected to persist into midweek and roads slow to thaw, several Collin County districts have announced they will remain closed on Wednesday, Jan. 28.

Affected districts include:

Anna ISD
Allen ISD
Blue Ridge ISD
Celina ISD
Frisco ISD
Lovejoy ISD
McKinney ISD
Melissa ISD
Plano ISD
Prosper ISD
Princeton ISD
Van Alstyne ISD

This list will be updated as additional schools announce closures.

Looking Ahead

According to the National Weather Service, Patchy to dense freezing fog is expected tonight into Wednesday morning across parts of North and Central Texas, with the thickest fog in North Texas. Light ice may form on roads and other surfaces, creating hidden slick spots. Drivers should exercise caution, leave extra distance between vehicles and allow additional travel time.

While the Arctic blast is expected to ease by midweek, cold temperatures will persist. Highs should reach the upper 30s to 40s, with overnight lows in the teens and 20s — still well below typical North Texas winter averages.
