Ray and Corpus Christi Moody are an even 5-5 against one another since September of 2016, but not for long. After each having a week off, the two teams will shake off the cobwebs and hit the field against one another at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Ray will be strutting in after a victory while Corpus Christi Moody will be coming in after a defeat.
Ray will roll into the matchup after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up nine points on October 3rd, then bounced right back against King last Friday. The Texans enjoyed a cozy 35-17 win over the Mustangs. The victory continues a trend for the Texans in their matchups with the Mustangs: they’ve now won three in a row.

Ray’s success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Brian McCullum led the charge by rushing for 160 yards and a pair of touchdowns while picking up 8.4 yards per carry, and also picking up 52 receiving yards. McCullum also punched in two rushing touchdowns, which is notable because the Texans are 3-1 when he posts at least two rushing touchdowns, but 1-2 otherwise. Another passer making a difference was Tripp Thompson, who threw for 221 yards and two TDs on only 17 passes.
Ray’s run defense was locked in: King could only muster 2.5 yards per carry. The team can thank Jaycen Elmore for the heroic effort on defense: he. Ray is a perfect 3-0 when they shut down the run game so well.
Ray’s defense didn’t let Tatum Emerson, get away unscathed either: they got into the backfield for three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Elmore, James Stevenson, and Manuel De La Garza, who each picked up one sack apiece. Another thorn in King’s side was Elmore, who picked up a sack and made 12 total tackles (2.0 for loss).
Meanwhile, Thursday just wasn’t the day for Corpus Christi Moody’s offense. They were dealt a 56-0 loss at the hands of Gregory-Portland two weeks ago. While losing is never fun, the Trojans can’t take it too hard given the team’s big disadvantage in MaxPreps’ Texas football rankings (they are ranked 929th, while the Wildcats are ranked 233rd).
Ray now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Corpus Christi Moody, they now have a losing record of 3-4.
Friday’s game might be decided on the ground. Ray has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 204 rushing yards per game. However, it’s not like Corpus Christi Moody struggles in that department as they’ve been averaging 225.3 rushing yards. There’s a good chance Friday’s contest turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Ray came out on top in a nail-biter against Corpus Christi Moody when the teams last played back in October of 2024, sneaking past 23-21. Will the Texans repeat their success, or do the Trojans have a new game plan this time around? We’ll find out soon enough.
