EL PASO, Texas — A traffic collision at the intersection of Martin Luther King and Stan Roberts resulted in the death of a 78-year-old man on January 26, 2026. This marks the third traffic fatality in El Paso this year, according to a press release from the El Paso Police Department.

The incident involved a 2016 Hyundai Tucson driven by 78-year-old William Beschle, of Chaparral, New Mexico, and a 2020 Ford F-350 driven by 46-year-old Carlos Jackson, also of Chaparral, New Mexico. Both vehicles were traveling northbound on Martin Luther King when Beschle attempted a right turn from a left-turn-only lane, leading to a collision with Jackson’s vehicle in the center lane. Beschle was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries and later died, stated the source. Improper right-hand turn by Beschle was identified as a contributing factor in the crash.
