Lubbock mayor issues Holocaust Remembrance Day proclamation

  • January 28, 2026

LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – Mayor Mark McBrayer recognized the victims of the Holocaust at today’s city council meeting in honor of Remembrance Day.

The mayor issued a special proclamation recognizing one of the darkest chapters in human history. He recognized the millions of people who died at the hands of Nazi Germany in the 1930s and 40s.

McBrayer said the city stands firmly against anti-Semitism and all forms of hatred and bigotry. He also invited Jewish faith leaders to address the community.

“The threat of antisemitism never goes away, it’s always ready to raise its ugly head time and time again,” McBrayer said.

Rabbi Braun addressed the community about the importance of education and moral values.

“When we think about the holocaust it’s to make sure we educate our children that it’s not just about learning and studying and being smart, it’s about having moral values and make sure the world is a truly civilized place,” Braun said.

Holocaust Remembrance Day honors the day the Soviet Army liberated the Nazi death camp at Auschwitz Birkenau 81 years ago.
