The 30-year-old nonprofit was named one of the most influential after-school programs by The National Afterschool Association (NAA).

Founded in 1996, Girls on the Run is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit which hosts interactive lessons for 3rd through 8th grade girls which are “designed to enhance participants’ social, emotional, and physical skills to successfully navigate life experiences.” To date, the organization has served over two million girls around the world, and was named one of the most influential after-school programs in health and wellness by The National Afterschool Association (NAA).

The DFW Metroplex chapter of Girls on the Run serves counties including Dallas, Collin, and Denton, and will be a featured charity partner at this year’s Too Cold To Hold running event at White Rock Lake. With much on the horizon for its 30th year, the organization is now actively recruiting volunteer coaches for the Spring 2026 season.

Specific to our area, coaches are needed for classes at the Plano Family YMCA (3300 McDermott Road) on Monday and Wednesday evenings. For those who would like to volunteer apart from weekly coaching, Girls on the Run is also seeking volunteers for its end-of-season 5K event. Opportunities include registration, finish line medals, and cheer stations. For more information, visit www.gotrdfw.org/volunteer
