For the most part, here in El Paso most of the winter weather has come and gone. In other parts of Texas, however, the cold is still very real- and in some cases, dangerous. This latest cold snap has brought harsh conditions across the state, prompting officials to urge people to take it seriously.
Still, Texans have always found uniquely Texas ways to cope with extreme weather, and sometimes that means finding a little humor in the middle of it.
This Might Be the Most Texas Way to Measure the Cold
Just how cold did it get in parts of Texas? Cold enough to freeze a Buc-ee’s T-shirt into a solid chunk of ice in about 15 minutes.
A reporter in Cypress soaked the shirt in water and hung it outside when temperatures dipped to around 23 degrees. Within minutes, it went from dripping wet to completely stiff, confirming what Texans already felt!
Now, I feel like this should have come with a warning! Don’t attempt to wear a wet shirt outside; wet clothing and exposed skin can become dangerous in minutes in weather like this!
While the frozen T-shirt gave Texans a moment to laugh, the cold snap itself has been no joke. Sub-freezing temperatures, icy conditions, and wind chills can become dangerous quickly, especially with wet clothing or exposed skin.
Officials continue to remind people to dress in layers, stay dry, and limit time outdoors when possible.
Texas Cold Hits Different
It may not be northern cold, but it’s Texas cold, and that’s enough! Around here, freezing weather doesn’t need snow to make its point. Sometimes all it takes is a frozen Buc-ee’s T-shirt.

Winter Storm Fern Photos in Deep East Texas
I was able to get out and get some photos of the aftermath of Winter Storm Fern. They weren’t the hard-hitting photos of damage left behind like some people had to endure, but some pretty cool pictures of the ice brought on by the storm. Check it out!
