A man was struck after stepping into the roadway in Aransas Pass; police confirm the driver stopped and no charges were filed.

ARANSAS PASS, Texas — A 57-year-old man was struck and killed by a pickup truck on early Wednesday morning in Aransas Pass.

The Aransas Pass Police Department said the accident occurred around 5:36 a.m. in the 2700 block of West Wheeler.

Chief of police David Perkins said the pedestrian entered the roadway from the bushes when he was hit by a 2015 Ford F-150.

Police add that the driver stopped immediately and cooperated, calling authorities. “It was a collision, not a hit-and-run,” said Chief Perkins. “The driver pulled over and did what he could until officers and first responders arrived.”

First responders arrived quickly and administered aid, but the victim was pronounced deceased at the scene.

No citations were issued to the driver. The victim has not been identified.

Police are reminding pedestrians to use crosswalks and intersections, especially in high-traffic areas with speed limits up to 55 mph.

“It’s best to cross when the lights and crosswalk signal allow,” said Chief Perkins.
