Prosper Rock Hill made the playoffs for the first time in program history last year, finishing in a tie for third in District 6-6A while setting a school record for most wins in a season as it was 6-5. Now in its sixth season of varsity football, Rock Hill has a shot to make the playoffs again.

Rock Hill beat Plano East 24-7 last week as Nate Vincent threw for 250 yards and a touchdown, Bryce Allen had six catches for 108 yards and Rock Hill scored two touchdowns on fumble returns. It was the third win in four games for Rock Hill (4-3, 3-3) after an 0-2 start in district, and one of those victories was against Plano West, another team in the thick of the 6-6A playoff race.

Friday’s Allen at Prosper game will determine the 6-6A title, but there are four other teams within a half-game of each other in the battle for the third and fourth playoff spots. Princeton (5-2, 3-2) has a half-game lead over Rock Hill, Plano (4-3, 3-3) and Plano West (4-3, 3-3) with three weeks left in the regular season.

Rock Hill is helped by the fact it has already played Allen and Prosper, the two undefeated district leaders. Rock Hill has just two games remaining, against Plano and McKinney.

Plano West beat Plano, while Plano beat Princeton and Princeton beat Rock Hill. It could come down to tiebreakers to determine who advances to the postseason.

Plano, the state’s ninth-largest school with an enrollment of 4,493, has made the playoffs just once in the last seven seasons. Plano West, which has the state’s third-largest enrollment at 5,337.5, is looking for its first playoff appearance since 2020 and has made the playoffs just that one time in the last 10 years.

They are battling two of the smaller 6A schools for those last two playoff spots. Rock Hill’s enrollment is 2,373 and Princeton’s is 2,379.
