After designating the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) a foreign terrorist organization, Governor Abbott is continuing to crack down on the group.
In a press release, the governor detailed a demand he sent to Attorney General Ken Paxton, instructing him to use his authority to revoke CAIR’s nonprofit status in the state of Texas. He is also asking Paxton to eliminate the ability of CAIR and its affiliates to operate in Texas.
Abbott said in the press release: “Regardless of the façade CAIR attempts to portray in press releases, CAIR cannot be allowed to use its ‘nonprofit’ status as a shield for sponsoring terror, advancing radical Islamism in Texas, or fronting for the Muslim Brotherhood.”
This comes as Paxton is also taking action against multiple Texas independent school districts as part of his investigation into the CAIR-sponsored “Islamic Games of North America.”
According to an earlier release from Paxton’s office, they are demanding information from both the Houston-area Cypress-Fairbanks ISD and the DFW-area Grapevine-Colleyville ISD regarding their previous involvement with hosting the events.
Paxton said in the release: “The spread of radical Islam in Texas must be stopped, and if school districts are continuing to promote or partner with organizations tied to an FTO, that ends now.”
