Authorities responded to a deputy-involved shooting at the Northline Transit Center in north Houston, according to Sheriff Ed Gonzalez.

Authorities said a deputy who was working an assignment with METRO Houston at the transit center on Fulton Street was reportedly attacked by a person with a knife.

Investigators said the deputy shot and killed the attacker.

Gonzalez said the attacker was taken to an area hospital in critical condition, but METRO officials later said they died at the scene. The deputy was taken to a hospital with what Gonzalez described as a “cut.” The deputy was reportedly in fair condition and is expected to survive.

As of 7:45 p.m., the scene remained active as investigators worked to determine exactly what led up to the shooting. From Air 11, a heavy police presence was at the scene, and crime scene tape could be seen blocking the train stop and a nearby intersection.

HCSO units, Houston Police Department units and METRO police units were spotted in the area. Gonzalez said HPD would lead the investigation.

KHOU 11 is working to gather more information and will update this story as authorities provide new details.
