Northwest ISD and Keller ISD officials released statements that all schools and facilities will be closed Thursday, Jan. 29, as icy conditions persist throughout the area.
What’s happening?
Both districts cited too much ice remains on the roadways in rural areas and on district property for the schools to safely open. With temperatures expected to dip below freezing overnight Wednesday into Thursday, officials opted to keep schools closed.
“Our parking lots and driveways just haven’t improved to the point where we feel we can safely get students in and out of our buildings, and we have a lot of employees who live outside the district who we know would have a challenging time commuting,” Keller Chief Communications Officer Bryce Nieman said.
Northwest ISD officials said they plan for schools to reopen Friday, Jan. 30.
