SAN ANTONIO (KTSA News) — One man is facing charges after a wrong-way crash killed a passenger and left another driver in critical condition.

The San Antonio Police Department says Carlos Guerra, 42, was arrested after a head-on collision on northbound I-35 near the North St. Mary Street exit.

Investigators say Guerra was driving a Chevy Silverado southbound on the interstate as a deputy with the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office tried to pull him over before midnight Sunday. As opposed to stopping, SAPD says Guerra kept going until he slammed head on into a Chevy Express van with two people inside.

A 50-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene, and a 50-year-old man driving the van was rushed to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. His current status is unknown.

Guerra’s been charged with intoxication manslaughter and intoxication assault. His bonds total $350,000.
