Boys’ Basketball

Plano edged Serena 53-51 on a last-second basket. Kevin Martinez scored the game-winning two-point bucket off the glass with 4.3 seconds remaining, assisted by Alan Contreras. Ethan Taxis led the Reapers with 16 points, while Braylon Schmidt added seven points and five assists.

Girls’ Basketball

Kaneland dropped a 33-30 decision to Ottawa. Grace Brunscheen and Sophia Rosati led the Knights with eight points apiece, while Amani Meeks added six points and six rebounds in the loss.

Sandwich earned a 52-34 win over Harvard.

Plano fell 46-26 to Marengo. Jadyn Long led the Reapers with 10 points, while Chloe Rowe and Cami Nunez scored five points apiece. Rowe also recorded 12 rebounds and two steals. Le’Niya Viser finished with four assists and two steals.

Girls’ Gymnastics

Geneva placed fourth and Batavia finished fifth at a DuKane Conference meet. Geneva’s Reese Lackey won the beam and floor exercise and also captured the all-around title.

WSPY BROADCAST SCHEDULE

WSPY will carry two high school varsity basketball games Friday night from Northern Illinois University’s Convocation Center in DeKalb, as the DeKalb Barbs face the Sycamore Spartans in their annual nonconference rivalry. The girls game is scheduled to tip off at 6 p.m., followed by the boys game at 8 p.m. Both games will air live on the radio at 107.1 FM WSPY and online via streaming at wspynews.com, as well as live on the radio over on sister station WLBK at FM 98.9 and AM 1360. 

COLLEGE ATHLETICS

Waubonsee Community College – Basketball

Waubonsee Community College’s men’s and women’s basketball teams host Moraine Valley Community College tonight in Sugar Grove. Tipoff for the women’s game is set for 5:15 p.m., followed by the men’s game at 7:15 p.m.

The Waubonsee women enter the matchup with a 16-4 record. West Aurora alum Niallie Evans leads the Chiefs with 20.1 points per game and also tops the team in steals at 3.3 per game and assists at seven per game. Serena alum Makayla McNally leads the team in rebounds at 8.3 per game.

The Waubonsee men carry a 17-5 record into the contest. Kaneland alum Freddy Hassan leads the Chiefs with 15.8 points per game and also tops the team in rebounds at nine per game and blocks at 1.6 per game.
