MOBILE, Ala. (WALA) – Students at Corpus Christi Catholic School faced off against the Theodore Bobcats Special Athletes Basketball Team this morning in a game focused on inclusion and community during Catholic Schools Week celebrations.
The event showcased teamwork with students taking on roles as referees, commentators, and coaches for the special athletes.
“We love hosting this special basketball team. It’s wonderful. It really gives our students an opportunity to realize that God made us all with unique abilities and to embrace that,” said Kristy Martin, principal at Corpus Christi Catholic School.
Student, Molly Stokes, who served as a coach for the game, said the experience was meaningful for both teams.
“It’s exciting because we get to show these Theodore Bobcats love, and they feel welcomed when they come play. It’s just a way for the 8th graders and the Theodore Bobcats get to help each other and play basketball and just have fun,” Stokes said.
The gymnasium was filled to capacity with parents, teachers, and students cheering on both teams.
“It makes me feel joyful. It is such a wonderful feeling to see everyone cheering on those Bobcats and our Cougars at the same time,” Martin said.
