A man died after being shot in the head in an altercation that stemmed from a disagreement over french fries, Fort Worth police said.

FORT WORTH, Texas — A man was killed after he was shot in the head during an argument over french fries, Fort Worth police said. 

Fort Worth police responded to a shooting around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 28, to an apartment complex in the 9500 block of Jeremiah Drive, the department said in a press release. When officers arrived on the scene, they found an adult man with a gunshot wound to his head, the release states.

Fort Worth emergency services transported the victim to the hospital, where he died several hours later, police said. 

Detectives learned that the incident started as an argument between friends, officials said. The argument began over an order of french fries that the victim did not want to share with the suspect, according to the press release. The verbal argument between the victim and the suspect escalated to a shooting, officials said. The suspect left the scene after the shooting. 

Multiple witnesses identified the shooter, the release states. The suspect is known to live in the same apartment complex, police said. 

Police did not immediately find the suspect and are actively searching for them, the release states. The Tarrant County Medical Examiner will identify the victim and declare the cause of death.Â
