Today’s Big Stories

1. Democrats visit 5-year-old who was detained in Minneapolis, in a case that stirred anger over ICE

Democratic Reps. Joaquin Castro and Jasmine Crockett on Wednesday visited a 5-year-old Ecuadorian boy and his father at a Texas federal detention center, in a case that has stirred anger over the Trump administration’s immigration crackdown and given fuel to Democrats and others who are pushing back against ICE’s actions.

2. State Board of Education poised to require biblical readings for public school students

A proposed list of required literary works in front of the State Board of Education has direct passages from the Christian Bible, and some parents see this as a violation of their student’s constitutional rights.

The proposed list for elementary schoolers includes three biblical stories: The Golden Rule, The Parable of the Prodigal Son and the Road to Damascus. These are also included in the state-created Bluebonnet Learning curriculum that is optional for districts to use.

3. 2 Texas district attorneys join national coalition of prosecutors against federal overreach

Two Texas district attorneys have joined a newly-created national group of prosecutors that say they’re fighting against federal overreach through accountability and education.

In a Wednesday press release, Travis County DA José Garza and Dallas County DA John Creuzot were named some of the founding participants of the Project for the Fight Against Federal Overreach, or Project FAFO.

Crews continue to work on cleaning up roads following winter storm

Crews are working hard across the state to clear what was left behind from the storm and hopefully get things up and running as soon as possible. While Central Texas is slowly getting back to normal as people return to work and school, that’s not the case for other parts of the state.
