Area education nonprofit Good Reason Houston is set to receive $3 million over four years to expand economic opportunity for Houston students, according to a Jan. 13 news release.

The $3 million investment is coming through StriveTogether, a national network of community partnerships that aims to bring together youth and families, nonprofits, businesses and schools to help youth members thrive in their communities. According to the news release, the investment will focus on three strategic priorities, including:
Strengthening early literacy and early grade reading by increasing Greater Houston pre-K enrollmentAdvancing alignment with regional and state policy priorities concerning literacy, college readiness, student-aid-application completion and postsecondary transitionsDeepening collaboration with area partners to produce evidence-based student success strategies citywideGood Reason Houston CEO Cary Wright touted the partnership in the news release.
“This investment from StriveTogether will help us ensure more students have access to high-quality early learning and clear pathways to living-wage careers,” Wright said. “This will allow more Houston students to thrive and our region to grow with them.”
A closer look
StriveTogether President and CEO Jennifer Blatz said the Houston area partnership is coming through StriveTogether’s Cradle to Career Network program, which she said aims to put young people on a path to economic mobility.
The partnership is one of StriveTogether’s three programs launched through the Cradle to Career Network program nationwide. Good Reason Houston is joining Marin Promise Partnership in California and Rocky Mountain Partnership in Colorado as recipients of StriveTogether’s grants, according to the news release.
Blatz said she believes the partnership will help Good Reason Houston continue to help area school districts improve their academic performance.
“Good Reason Houston is reshaping how partners work together to improve outcomes and expand opportunity,” Blatz said in the news release. “Their data infrastructure, strong support for school systems and statewide leadership are creating conditions where more young people can thrive.”

According to the news release, the investment will help Good Reason Houston work with area school districts by using district-level proof points to shape broader conversations about scalable student success strategies across Texas, positioning Houston as a model for other regions seeking to expand economic opportunity through education.
