Michelin-starred Le Jardinier, 5500 Main, continues its Culinary Canvas series with a dessert and cocktail inspired by Frida: The Making of an Icon. Created by executive pastry chef Salvatore Martone and pastry chef Tiffani Gkaris, the In Bloom dessert ($20) layers guava cream, pineapple compote, hibiscus gelée and warm piloncillo crumble, while the Trazo Rojo cocktail ($20) blends chamomile-infused mezcal with orange hibiscus and candied hibiscus. Both are available during lunch and dinner service through May 17.
As the cold lingers, Etoile Cuisine et Bar, 1101-11 Uptown Park, is putting its cassoulet back on the menu. Chef Philippe Verpiand’s recipe features several types of pork and a whole duck leg slow-cooked with white beans, available for dine-in lunch ($28), dinner ($42) and call-ahead takeout.
Burger Bodega founder Abbas Dhanani hosts For The Culture, a one-day pop-up at PX Café, 6856 Bellaire, Houston, on Saturday, Jan. 31, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Guests can expect Pakistani childhood favorites and family recipes, while Underground Creamery and Pudgy’s Fine Cookies provide sweets. Proceeds benefit PX Project Houston, supporting career exploration and life skills for young adults; and the menu features Mom’s Nihari, Chicken Biryani, a Chicken Sixty-Five Po’ Boy, and a Cookie Sundae with mango lassi ice cream and spiced cookies.
Kenny & Ziggy’s, 1743 Post Oak ,is celebrating Yiddish Cooking Month throughout February with a $45 three-course prix-fixe menu available for dine-in lunch and dinner. Get classic Eastern European deli dishes, from chopped liver, gefilte fish, and pelmeni soup to pastrami-stuffed chicken, old-fashioned cholent, and a selection of rugelach, babka, and New York cheesecake. A portion of proceeds will benefit the Yiddish Book Center in Amherst, MA, which preserves Yiddish language and literature.
