Jorja Elliott scored 24 points to help spark a late rally, but Incarnate Word ran out of gas down the final stretch, losing 70-64 to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Thursday in Corpus Christi.
Elliott hit 7 of 15 shots and grabbed eight rebounds, while Destiny Whitaker scored 16 points off the bench, knocking down four 3-pointers. But the Cardinals (10-9, 8-4 Southland) shot just 32.2% overall and 24% at the free-throw line, losing despite holding the Islanders to 38.9% shooting with 22 turnovers. Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (4-15, 3-9) built a 47-32 margin in rebounding.

UIW needed more than 6 minutes to score its first basket of the fourth quarter, allowing A&M-Corpus Christi to lead 59-51 with four minutes remaining after a 14-1 run. Elliott scored nine points to fuel a 12-4 spurt as UIW tied the score with a minute to play, but the Islanders scored seven points at the free-throw line to seal the win.
UIW led by as many as 11 points after opening the third quarter on a 21-5 run across about a six-minute stretch.
