Leeroy Trevino, Jr. pleads guilty, sentenced for 2024 murder

LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – A 20-year-old Lubbock man pleaded guilty on Friday to the 2024 murder of Jose Gonzalez.

Judge Trey McClendon of the 137th District Court sentenced Leeroy Trevino, Jr. to 25 years in the Texas Department of Criminal Justice (TDCJ).

Back on April 13, 2024, Police responded to reports of gunfire in the area of 44th Street and Avenue Q just after 8 p.m.

When officers arrived, they found 34-year-old Jose Gonzalez, who had been shot several times.

He was loaded into an ambulance and taken to University Medical Center, where he later died from his injuries.

Investigators believe Gonzalez was in a vehicle leaving the Executive Inn when he was shot.

The suspects ran away after the shooting and Gonzalez exited his vehicle and walked back into a motel room, where officers found him.

Trevino, Jr. was arrested and booked into the Lubbock County Detention Center on a murder charge on Wednesday, April 17 in the 200 block of 50th Street.
