Frost-covered leaves in Houston, January 2026

Houston managed to avoid the worst of a winter storm that hit Texas last weekend. Days later, freezing temperatures are expected to return.

Though precipitation is not in the forecast this time, the National Weather Service’s Houston/Galveston office has issued a freeze watch from Saturday evening through Sunday morning. A cold weather advisory is in effect on Saturday morning.

“We’re not ruling out a cold weather advisory [Sunday morning] just yet,” Bradley Brokamp, a meteorologist with NWS, told Houston Public Media on Friday morning. “It’s possible it could be warranted for Saturday night into Sunday as well, given some of the wind chill values that are currently forecasted.”
