Dallas Police Arrest 2 Suspects in Viral I-30 Bridge New Year’s Eve Shooting

  • January 30, 2026

DALLAS, Texas (KWTX) – Two men have been arrested in a reckless gunfire incident on the Margaret McDermott Bridge that drew worldwide attention after videos of the shooting circulated on social media on New Year’s Eve.

The arrests of Anthony Acevedo, 20, and Jose Alarcon-Sanchez, 18, mark a significant breakthrough in an investigation that captured public attention following the dangerous display of gunfire on the I-30 bridge just west of Downtown Dallas.

The Dallas Police Department launched an aggressive investigation immediately following the incident, drawing on the resources of the Central Patrol Division and Special Investigations Unit. Federal authorities from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) and the U.S. Attorney’s Office also assisted in the probe.

The investigation proved fruitful. Detectives recovered more than 100 shell casings from the scene, crucial evidence that helped establish the facts of the case. During their investigation, detectives discovered that Alarcon-Sanchez had also been arrested by Grand Prairie Police Department just hours after New Year’s Eve for a similar offense in their jurisdiction.

As the investigation progressed, authorities uncovered connections to another dangerous incident.

Detectives identified Anderson Derce Lara, 25, as the suspect in a road-rage shooting that occurred in November. In that incident, Lara allegedly fired multiple rounds into a vehicle carrying three adults and three children.

With assistance from the ATF, investigators obtained a search warrant and recovered multiple firearms from Lara, including rifles that matched those seen in the social media videos of the New Year’s Eve bridge shooting.

Acevedo and Alarcon-Sanchez face charges of Discharge of a Firearm in Certain Municipalities, a Class A misdemeanor. Acevedo has since been released on bond.

Derce Lara faces significantly more serious charges: six counts of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, a first-degree felony. Both Alarcon-Sanchez and Derce Lara have immigration holds placed on them.

A Message on Accountability

Dallas Police Chief Daniel Comeaux emphasized the department’s commitment to public safety.

“If you put lives at risk in Dallas, we will identify you, investigate thoroughly, and hold you accountable,” he said.

The arrests send a clear message that the department will pursue those who engage in dangerous criminal activity, regardless of social media visibility or public attention.
