Another round of closures are expected again on Interstate 30 in downtown Dallas this weekend. Drivers can expect detours and heavy traffic delays as a result of the planned construction activity by the Texas Department of Transportation.
Here’s what to know about the closures.
According to TxDOT, all lanes of east and westbound I-30 will be closed between the I-35E and I-45/U.S. 75 interchanges, weather permitting, as part of the ongoing I-30 Canyon corridor improvement project. Closures will be in effect starting Friday at 10 p.m. and will continue through Monday at 5 a.m.
Officials warned of significant traffic delays as a result of the closures, so if possible, they said, avoid unnecessary travel in the area. Additionally, drivers should plan ahead for longer travel time and be prepared for slower or stopped traffic.
Breaking News
There will be a signed detour rerouting drivers to the Spur 366/Woodall Rodgers Freeway as an alternate east-west connection between I-35E and I-45/US 75 during this time, according to TxDOT. Officials said any other routes could result in a longer travel distance.
More longer term impacts are also expected on nearby streets as part of the project. Future scheduled lane and ramp closures for this project will be posted at www.drivetexas.org as information becomes available, TxDOT officials said.
TxDOT officials are urging drivers to use caution in work zones, follow posted speed limits and be aware of slow moving traffic and working crews in the construction areas.
