In their first season under Sean Miller, the Texas Longhorns have shown some encouraging signs, getting off to a 12-9 start. While there is still plenty of work to be done, the Longhorns have held their own and beaten a few ranked teams. One player who has made an impact and shown some growth under Miller is veteran Tramon Mark.Â
Through 21 games, the Longhorns guard is averaging 13.3 points and 2.2 assists per game. Both of those averages are higher than what he finished his first season in Austin with. The Texas native has also made an impact on defense, averaging 1 steal and 0.6 blocks per game.Â
While those numbers are not Mark’s career highs, they do represent his second-highest totals. He spent his first three collegiate seasons with Houston before transferring to Arkansas for a season. After his one-year stint as a Razorback, Mark decided to call Austin home, and over the last few months, he has provided a reminder of his value.Â
Additionally, Mark has thrived against some of the best teams in the nation. In the Longhorns’ last four games against ranked opponents, the veteran guard has scored less than 20 points once. That is partly why he has become a fixture in Miller’s offense with no signs of slowing down.Â
As the Longhorns look to build on their success, Mark will be a key piece to the puzzle. He has proven that he can score in bunches and make a difference on defense with five steals in his last three games. When he is in the groove offensively, Mark is a good complementary piece to Dailyn Swain.
