Frisco and Plano voters went to the polls Saturday to elect new city council members to fill vacancies created when an incumbent in each city ran for a higher office.

Unofficial early returns showed former fire chief Mark Piland in the lead over insurance professional Ann Anderson in the race for Place 1 on the Frisco City Council. Piland received 2,132 votes, just over 54% of early and mail-in ballots.

In Plano, early vote totals showed Shun Thomas, educational specialist at Children’s Health Plano, leading retired teacher Colleen Aguilar-Epstein. Thomas received 2,346 votes, 57.64% of early and mail-in ballots cast in the race.

In Frisco, John Keating, incumbent council member representing Place 1, resigned to run for mayor, and in Plano, Julie Holmer, incumbent council member for Place 7, is running to be a Collin County commissioner.
