Early Monday morning, the University Interscholastic League (UIL) will release the long-awaited district alignments for football for the 2026-2027 and 2027-2028 school years. As soon as they are posted on the UIL’s website, High School Football America will breakdown the changes here and on a social media platforms.

Fans are always interested in the changes coming to Class 6A, the state’s largest classification.

All eyes will be on DeSoto when the new districts are released. The Eagles, the reigning 6A Division II state champ, has submitted numbers that would put the school in 5A Division I, but it’s believed that the powerhouse will opt to play up in 6A for the next two years, which it did over the last two seasons.

What happens with DeSoto will also affect District 11-6A, which has been extremely strong with DeSoto and Duncanville being fixtures in state championship games over the last eight years. The eight-team district is expected to get a major facelift with Cedar Hill, Lancaster and Mesquite expected to drop from 6A to 5A. If DeSoto moves down that means the district will have a dramatically new look next year.

Fans are also interested in District 23-6A in the Houston-area. Led by reigning 6A Division I champ North Shore, winners of four state crowns in eight years, has been paired-up with High School Football America 300 regulars Atascocita, C.E. King and Summer Creek.

Longtime 5A power Aledo, winners of 12 Texas high school football state champs, will be moving up to Class 6A. Last year, the Bearcats finished No. 92 in the HSFA 300 national rankings, powered by NFL Play Football. Aledo currently owns a 135-game district win streak.

Frisco will be getting its first-ever 6A school as Wakefield moves up into the state’s largest classification.

10-time Texas high school football championships will be moving up from 4A to 5A. The Bobcats last won a state title in 2024.
