SPC’s 2026 annual songwriter competition

  • February 1, 2026

LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) –

LEVELLAND – For aspiring songwriters in the West Texas area, South Plains College’s Creative Arts Department will host its fourth-annual Songwriter Competition at 7 p.m. on March 26 at the Tom T. Hall Studio in the Creative Arts Building on the Levelland campus.

Artists must produce an original song and submit it as an audio file by Feb. 23 to SPC music instructor Jerry Serrano at jserrano@southplainscollege.edu.

The competition will be divided into two categories: high school writers ages 14 to 18 and adult writers ages 19 and older.

“The SPC Songwriter Competition continues to grow each year, and this fourth-annual event is a testament to the talent, passion, and storytelling that make our songwriting community so special,” Serrano said. “This is a free event, and all are invited to attend.”

SPC faculty will judge the entries and select six high school and six adult finalists to perform at the March 26 competition. Finalists will compete for awards, including a performance spot at a Cactus Theater show, merchandise, and logo design.

For more information about the Songwriter Competition, contact Serrano at jserrano@southplainscollege.edu or 806-716-2282.
