An El Paso man remains jailed on murder charge in connection with the fatal shooting of a 17-year-old man in Fabens, authorities said.

Deputies arrested Kelvin Lee Armenta, 19, on suspicion of murder in the Thursday, Jan. 29, death of 17-year-old Andrey Martinez, El Paso County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Priscilla I. Contreras said in a news release.

Lee Armenta is being held on a $450,000 bond at the El Paso County Jail Annex, jail records showed on Sunday, Feb. 1. He is listed as Kelvin Lee on jail records.

Limited details have been released on the fatal shooting as the investigation remains ongoing.

Eduardo Solis, who is listed in court records as Lee Armenta’s attorney, could not immediately be reached for comment.

Deputies responded to a welfare check in the Fabens area after receiving reports of a person “seeking help while covered in blood and possibly armed with a handgun,” the news release states.

An investigation revealed Martinez was taken to Del Sol Medical Center with a gunshot wound. He died at the hospital.

The Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit took over the investigation and determined Lee Armenta was a suspect in the shooting, the news release states.

Lee Armenta was arrested on suspicion of murder and booked into the El Paso County Jail on Friday, Jan. 30.
