Dallas Fire-Rescue is investigating the cause of a fire after a woman was found dead on a burning mattress in an apartment on Sunday evening, officials say.
According to DFR, firefighters were called at about 6:41 p.m. to an apartment complex at 2359 Highland Road, where a fire alarm could be heard from a first floor apartment.
The crew had to force their way into the apartment after knocking and getting no answer, officials say, and upon entering, reportedly found the victim on the remnants of a burning mattress.

Firefighters immediately pulled the woman out of the apartment, officials said, but by that point she had succumbed to her injuries. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The fire was declared out at 7:26 p.m. after firefighters extinguished what was left of the burning mattress.
DFR says it’s investigating the cause of the fire. Neither the identity of the victim nor her cause of death have been released yet.
