A monthlong, multi-agency human trafficking operation in Lubbock resulted in the rescue of 10 victims and the arrest of 20 individuals, according to information released by the Lubbock Police Department.
The operation was conducted throughout January and coordinated with National Human Trafficking Awareness Month. It was led by the Lubbock Police Department’s Special Operations Human Trafficking Unit, with assistance from Homeland Security Investigations, the Texas Department of Public Safety, the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation, and the Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office.
Police said the rescued victims were connected with Voice of Hope, a Lubbock-based organization that provides services and resources for survivors of human trafficking.
According to law enforcement, 16 individuals face felony charges, one individual faces both felony and misdemeanor charges, and three individuals face misdemeanor charges stemming from the operation. Several suspects were also held on federal immigration detainers.
“While the operation has concluded, the Lubbock Police Department, in conjunction with its area law enforcement partners, remains committed in its fight against human trafficking here in the Hub City and beyond,” the department said in a statement.
