Hold onto your hats, Lake Highlands. There’s been a big shakeup in the world of high school football.
The University Interscholastic League announced their realignment this morning, and the Wildcats will face tougher district opponents over the next two years. District 7-6A will now include Coppell, Plano High, Plano East, Plano West, Richardson, Berkner, Pearce and Lake Highlands. Dallas Jesuit has been moved north to District 6-6A with Allen, McKinney, McKinney Boyd, Princeton, Prosper, Prosper Rock Hill and Prosper Walnut Grove. The Irving schools have been moved west to compete in District 8-6A with Euless Trinity, Grand Prairie, Haltom City, Hurst Bell and South Grand Prairie.
UIL officials realign the districts every two years, and there’s no way to foretell if this configuration will (or won’t) stick beyond that, but the Richardson ISD have been lumped with Plano schools before. Earning a playoff spot in those days was tougher for athletes in all sports, but conventional wisdom is that stronger district opponents are better prep for playoff games.
You’ll find the UIL alignment chart here.
