The University Interscholastic League released its biennial realignment Monday. Here are the new football districts for Central Texas for the next two years. (Class 6A districts are not split into divisions prior to the playoffs, so these districts apply to the other team sports.)

District 24-6A

Cedar Park, East View, Hutto, Leander Rouse, Vandegrift and Vista Ridge

Comment: East View and Hutto get thrown in with the five Leander ISD schools. The bigger news might be that these schools are in Region III, meaning they avoid Lake Travis, Westlake, Dripping Springs and the Round Rock ISD schools through the first four rounds of the playoffs. But is it a tougher route to the semifinals in football going against Houston-area teams? Probably.

District 25-6A

Cedar Ridge, Lake Travis, McNeil, Round Rock, Stony Point, Westlake and Westwood

Comment: Lake Travis and Westlake are kept together and put in a district with the five RRISD schools. This will be a tough district in all sports, but particularly football.

District 26-6A

Akins, Austin High, Bowie, Del Valle, Dripping Springs, Hays and Johnson

Comment: Dripping Springs seems to be the beneficiary here. But the Tigers face the possibility of seeing Westlake in the first round of the playoffs.

District 12-5A DI

A&M Consolidated, College Station, Connally, Georgetown, Glenn, Hendrickson, Killeen, Killeen Shoemaker and Weiss

Comment: The UIL didn’t do Georgetown, Hendrickson and Weiss any favors. The trio, as well as Glenn and Connally, got put into a nine-team district that includes perennial solid programs College Station and A&M Consolidated. Travel will also be rough with two Killeen schools in addition to trips to College Station.

District 13-5A DI

Anderson, Boerne Champion, Cedar Creek, Manor, McCallum, Lehman, Lockhart, Seguin and Smithson Valley

Comment: Anderson, Manor and McCallum will have to make plenty of long trips south. Boerne Champion and Smithson Valley are traditionally tough in football, with the latter obviously being the two-time defending Class 5A Division I state champion.

District 12-5A DII

Bastrop, Crockett, Elgin, LASA, Navarro and Pflugerville

Comment: It’s a surprise that there’s a six-team district. Bastrop and Pflugerville seem to be the initial beneficiaries here as neither of the Liberty Hill schools are present.

District 13-5A DII

Alamo Heights, Boerne, Liberty Hill, Liberty Hill Legacy Ranch, New Braunfels, New Braunfels Long Creek and S.A. Veterans Memorial

Comment: There’s going to be a lot of late nights for the Liberty Hill schools. At the northern edge of the Austin area, the two schools are in a district with schools around the San Antonio area. Not only will there be plenty of travel, but this is a tough district with six solid programs and a varsity newcomer in Legacy Ranch that shouldn’t be short on talent.

District 13-4A DI

Canyon Lake, Comal Davenport, Fredericksburg, Kerrville Tivy, LBJ, Northeast, Taylor and Travis

Comment: The Austin school district split up its Class 4A schools into divisions. LBJ has been able to roll to district titles recently, but that may no longer be the case as Canyon Lake and Davenport are two very good programs. At eight teams, this will be one of the funner 4A districts in the state.

District 12-4A DI

Burnet, China Spring, Jarrell, Marble Falls and Stephenville

District 14-4A DII

Austin Achieve, Eastside, Giddings, Lago Vista, Manor New Tech and Wimberley

Comment: Wimberley and Lago Vista might dominate this district. Keep an eye on Eastside to challenge for third place.

District 3-3A DI

Early, Ingram Moore, Llano, San Angelo TLC and Wall
