AUSTIN, Texas — A pedestrian was killed in a hit-and-run crash early Saturday morning at the intersection of North IH 35 service road southbound and East 6th Street, according to Austin police.
The incident occurred at approximately 2:48 a.m. on January 31, 2026, when Austin Police Department (APD) officers responded to a collision involving a motor vehicle and a pedestrian. The suspect vehicle fled the scene following the crash. Austin-Travis County Emergency Medical Services (ATCEMS) arrived and attempted life-saving measures, but the pedestrian, identified as 39-year-old Aaron William Johnson, was pronounced dead at the scene.
This marks Austin’s sixth fatal crash of 2026, resulting in six fatalities. In comparison, on the same date in 2025, there were five fatal crashes with five deaths. The investigation into the incident is ongoing, and the initial assessment of the crash may be subject to change.
